The debut of the first generation GL-Class X164, a full-size premium SUV from Mercedes, took place in the spring of 2006, marking the entry of the Mercedes-Benz concern into the luxury SUV market. The basis of the model was the load-bearing body system used in the Mercedes ML-Class. It was originally planned to replace the G-Class SUV with the new GL-Class, but the decision caused a resonance in the circles of fans of the famous series, that the production of the G-Class continued. The model was restyled in 2009, the appearance of the car was changed, the front bumper with LED headlights, the radiator grille and the rear bumper were upgraded. In 2012, production of the GL-Class X164 was stopped.
